Shah Rukh Khan and wife Gauri Khan have announced the birth of their baby boy in Mumbai today. Amid speculation that 47-year old SRK and Gauri had used a surrogate to carry the child and predetermined the sex of the fetus, something that may be illegal in India, SRK tried to reassure everyone the baby was his.
SRK tried to dispel the rumors by saying “The father’s name was Shah Rukh Khan and the mother was Gauri Khan.” This doesn’t amount to a flat out denial of the surrogacy rumors as the father’s sperm and mother’s egg are usually used and implanted into the surrogate mother’s body so technically SRK’s statement would be true even if a surrogate had been used.
Adding to the mystery surrounding the birth was the cryptic “Andheri Hospital has informed the BMC health authorities that a boy was born on May 27th, 2013″ by BMC spokesman Vijay Khabele Patil. In a nation of 1.25 billion people saying a baby was born on May 27th seems to be an understatement, it’s undoubtedly certain that many baby boys were born on that day!
SRK tried to temper the joyful news of his baby boy’s birth with some unexpected bad news that he refused to elaborate on, saying only “”It is a little mix of sadness and happiness at this point of time and I would request everyone including the concerned authorities to show the same alacrity in finding out and doing the enthusiastic investigation they are doing on my baby upon other things they should be lending their thoughts to right now.” SRK is 47 and his wife Gauri is 42, leading many to speculate that perhaps they suffered from some of the difficulties encountered by older couples trying to conceive. The problems older women conceiving face and the toll it would take on Gauri’s body are purportedly some of the reasons SRK and Gauri chose to use surrogacy in the first place.
SRK earns a reported $37.7 million dollars ( 227 crores) annually so it’s easy to surmise that baby SRK will receive the best medical attention money can buy if he indeed suffers from an unknown medical malady. This will be the third child for SRK and Guari after son Aryan (16) and daughter Suhana (13).
Let’s hope SRK’s baby boy is half as cute as his father was as a baby!
